Frequently Asked Questions.

Everything you need to know about license, data, updates, and how to use Katsumii — all in one place.

Katsumii is a trading journal that runs on your own computer. It keeps funded, challenge, personal and backtest trading in four separate modes, tracks the prop-firm rules each account lives under, and turns your logged trades into statistics you can act on. Your data stays in one local file — there is no cloud account.

Getting started

Yes. The free Demo runs the real application with sample data, so you can open every screen and see how it works. You can log up to five trades of your own in one account. No sign-up and no payment details are required.

Getting started

Katsumii supports Windows 10 or newer and macOS 12 Monterey or newer. Windows 11 is recommended, and both Intel/AMD 64-bit and Apple Silicon systems are supported.

Getting started

Only one thing: MetaTrader 5 sync needs a running MT5 terminal and therefore Windows. Everything else — manual and CSV imports, the other broker connections, analytics, reports and backups — works identically on macOS. API access may be paid, depends on your broker, and requires a matching API key.

Getting started

A one-time purchase. You buy the licence once and keep using the app locally — no monthly fees, and nothing expires. Three editions are available: a free Demo, Lite and Professional.

License

Yes. Every update within the version you bought is included at no extra cost. A future major version would be a separate purchase.

License

A licence can be installed up to five times, which covers your desktop, a laptop and a replacement machine. Each installation keeps its own local database — the app does not sync between them.

License

Katsumii supports funded accounts, challenge/demo accounts, and personal accounts. A fourth mode covers backtesting, which uses sessions instead of accounts. Each mode keeps its own accounts and trades separate.

Trading modes

Yes. Challenge accounts can model profit targets, max loss, daily loss limits, trailing drawdown, activity requirements, consistency rules, time limits, and other prop firm rules.

Trading modes

You can store P&L, risk, direction, size, asset, setup, planned R:R, pips/points, entry/exit, times, duration, fees, mood, mistakes, tags, timeframe, color, links, notes, and up to four screenshots.

Features

Yes. The import wizard walks you through upload, column mapping, preview, duplicate checking and the final import. Ready-made presets recognise the common broker exports; anything else you map once and save as your own preset. CSV import comes with the Lite edition, the direct broker connections with Professional.

Features

P&L, win rate, profit factor, effective R:R, planned R:R, expectancy, trade count, average win/loss, best/worst trade, streaks, winning days, drawdown distance, daily loss distance, and consistency metrics.

Features

Yes. The Professional edition generates a self-contained HTML performance report — an offline document with equity curve, calendar heatmap and breakdowns by day, session, setup and more. It follows your active filters, so you can export the statistics for a single strategy, account or period as a report of its own.

Features

All data lives locally on your device. The backend uses a local SQLite database, and images are stored in local upload folders.

Data & privacy

Not for the core journal. Journal, accounts, trades, and reports are fully local features, and your core data is available offline. Internet is required for product activation, updates, API sync, and integrations.

Data & privacy

Yes. The paid editions write automatic backups on the schedule you choose — weekly, monthly or both — into a folder you pick, keep as many copies as you set, and restore the last one with a single click. Backups can also be exported and imported by hand.

Data & privacy

Restore the last backup from inside the app, or copy a snapshot back to where the database belongs — Katsumii picks it up on the next start. Because everything sits in one SQLite file, a copy on a second drive is already a complete safety net.
